The third annual Tendring Youth Awards had been hailed as the Magic of Tendring’s Youth by Tendring District Youth Council (TDYC).
The ceremony that is now a signature event was held at the Princes Theatre, Clacton, which opened its doors to more then 500 people who watched awards dished out to different groups and individuals.
The Princes Theatre Youth Group, Brightlingsea Junior School Dance Club, Chase Lane Brass Band and Colbayns Soft Rock Group provided breath-taking entertainment throughout the evening.

Young Carer Award

David Purton, 14 Clacton County High School

Lesley Cotter who nominated David said, “David has been the main carer for his family for a number of years. Mum has learning disabilities and dad was terminally ill. Dad died a short while ago and David has taken on the role of main carer and financially organises the family and is fantastic at it.”


 

Young Achiever

Gabrielle Tyler, 11 Cann Hall Primary School

Ms Cooper who nominated Gabrielle said, “Gabrielle has worked exceptionally hard on her dancing, whilst maintaining her hard work in class. She recently took park in a national competition in Birmingham. She is a great example of working hard and achieving great success.”

Elizabeth Bodmer, 9 St Andrews VA CofE Primary School

Mrs Holeszowska who nominated Elizabeth said, “Despite having Leukaemia Elizabeth has always remained positive, she has not complained and when she improved she has spent time and effort to raise money for the sick children's trust that is part of Addenbrookes Hospital.”
 


 

Commitment Award

Ryan Bruce, 15 1st and 2nd Clacton Boys Brigade, Community Group

Ian Fairhead who nominated Ryan said, “Ryan has been in the 1st & 2nd Clacton Boys Brigade since he was 5 years old. This year Ryan has taken over the majority of running the junior section, organising the activities, sorting of paperwork and record keeping. All this is done while Ryan is getting ready to sit his GCSE exams.”

Jamie Cummings, 13 Tendring Technology College

Julie Claxton who nominated Jamie said, “Jamie is a diabetic who is insulin dependant and comes daily to my office to check his blood. He has a passion for karting. He has recently passed his ARKS driving test and exam and has a licence from the Motor Sport Association.”

Frinton and Walton Under 15’s Team Community Group

Chris Byland who nominated the team said, “They are a wonderful group of lads who have fantastic team spirit and have never stopped trying even in the face of defeat.”

Emily Reeve, 12 Clacton County High School

Miss Justine Holmes who nominated Emily said, “Emily is completely awe-inspiring student. Recently year 7’s have been involved in the ‘stand firm against bullying’ project and the eradication of bullying. Emily has been a truly inspiring student throughout.”
 


 

School Council Award

Cann Hall Primary School

Miss Reeves who nominated the school council said, “The school council have become a powerful voice this year at Cann Hall. They are responsible for helping change the reward system in school, organised themed dinners, introduced a solve it box and are now starting a newsletter for pupils.”

Gabriel Saldin, 15 Clacton County High School

Mr Austin who nominated Gabriel said’ “This individual is a working musician with an amazing amount of ability. He is performing pieces of music so advanced they would not be out of place on a university course. He works so hard on his music and always strives to improve.


 

Young Team Arts Award

Cast of Nut Cracker Colbayns High School

Five separate people nominated this group and Lynn Lancaster said “A first for Colbayns to stage a full ballet. All the students showed commitment and dedication. All who watched the show were enthralled, totally fab!!”

Ria Baker, 16 Clacton County High School

Lynn Nash who nominated Ria said, “Ria trained as a youth health trainer in June 2007. Since then she has been a very enthusiastic member of the team coming up with brilliant ideas and carrying them through. She is always the first to volunteer and nothing is too much trouble.
 


 

Enterprise Award

Hannah Baker, 14 Clacton County High School

Sam Torr who nominated Hannah said. “Excellent leadership skills and commitment to business education. Winner of our schools enterprise award in 2007.”

Stacey Cranmer, 14 Tendring Technology College

Julie Claxton who nominated Stacey said, “Stacey is involved in our school council and takes student ideas to the school management meetings. She is a member of student voice and is part of the team setting up a community action day this year (2008) that is being organised by the Police. She is a very able and confident young lady.”
