What the press and media say about TDYC…

Tendring: Youth group launches online forum

Tuesday 7th October 2008

YOUTH councillors have launched an online forum to mark their group’s fourth anniversary.

The Tendring District Youth Council (TDYC) initiative, named the V-Box, is aimed at providing youngsters in the district with a facility to make their voices heard.

Deputy Leader William Harragan said: “This is a shining example of young people who are passionate about providing a voice for young people."

Tendring: Youth bus praised

Tuesday 21st October 2008

A MINIBUS dedicated to youngsters has been praised by parish councillors.

Tendring Community Transport’s 15-seat minibus for children and younger people was discussed by St Osyth Parish Council.

Members were delighted a service was being provided for youngsters in rural areas.

George Gibbs said: “Tendring Community Transport has a brand new minibus dedicated to youngsters - it’s marvellous.

“Youngsters were involved in designing the livery which is absolutely fantastic.”

Brightlingsea: Hailed for dancing talent

Monday 28th April 2008

A team of twinkle-toed youngsters have been hailed for their talents.

Pupils at Brightlingsea Junior School's dance club picked up two surprise honours at Tendring Youth Awards recently.

One was an arts award for their acheivements in the local community, the other a prize for their performance of Jackie Wilson's number one, Reet Petite, before judges at Clacton's Princes Theatre.

The club, which meets every Tuesday, was also shortlisted for the Young Team Arts Award but narrowly missed out to Colbayns High School, Clacton.

Deputy headteacher Amanda Higgins said: "Both these awards were a complete surprise to us all."

Tendring: Give us better buses, say youngsters

Friday 21st September 2007

Youngsters are calling for transport to be made safer in Tendring.

The call follows a survey that showed seven in ten children feel unsafe on buses and one in four fear for their safety.

More than 650 children from schools and organisations gave details of their experiences of buses, trains, bicycles and taxis.

The survey shows most youngsters say buses are too unreliable, drivers unhelpful and buses unclean.
Stephen Mayzes, of Tendring Youth Council, said the council is aiming to work with bus operators and police.

The council aims to tackle antisocial behaviour and to improve accessibility for young people with cheaper fares.
