TDYC prides itself in being proactive by getting involved with local issues raised by younger people.

Cameron says It is important for any youth council to be enthusiastic and energetic in and around the local community.

Sarah is always looking for new ways to improve the area she lives in and with the help and support of TDYC she knows she can achieve her goals, we can all achieve goals, but right across the district in which we live and we can only do that with your help!

We hope that you will find the issues we tackle important but also fun and interesting because what we do is to help you have a better future.

Some of the issues we have been championing: anti-bullying campaign, positive images of young people, get out - get involved charity events and lots more...

Bullying

TDYC in partnership with local secondary schools formed and anti bullying steering group, to help stamp out bullying.

A six week course was organised specially designed for young people incorporating self awareness, self defense and assertiveness skills.

Forty young people completed the course which demonstrates the commitment TDYC has to tackle bullying.

Essex Police Youth Conference

Every year members attend the Essex Police Youth Conference which aims to bring police officials, community organisations, local authorities and young people together to discuss community safety, policing strategies and relationships between the police and younger citizens.

So far TDYC has always been the largest participating youth council. Youth Councillors get to take part in an array of different workshops and take away with them a wide range of skills and knowledge relating to neighbourhood policing.

Our attendance at the event shows people just how much we care about playing a proactive part in reducing crime and disorder in Tendring.

Stepping out for little Lucy Charity Event

Smile For Lucy

A band of willing walkers joined together in support of a disabled four-year-old girl. Little Lucy Chadwick was the guest of honour at the sponsored walk between Clacton Pier and Holland Haven Sailing Club on Monday 20th August 2007.

The event was organised by TDYC in aid of the youngster, who has a rare chromosomal condition called 2q24 deletion. On the day family and friends gathered for the 2 mile walk including her sisters Amy and Chloe and even her great-grandmother Joan.

TDYC Members praised those who took part in the walk for Lucy. “The event brought us together as a community and just shows that we can do things to help others. It was all about making a difference for Lucy and that’s what TDYC is all about ‘making a difference’.”

Anti Social Behaviour

Stephen Mayzes leader of the Tendring District Youth Council, calls on the local council to safeguard the 7 million pound town centre improvement project from being ruined by yobs.

Issues include preventing a yob culture in Clacton Town Centre and keeping the streets clean.

Mr Mayzes is also calling for an alcohol ban in the area, and has asked for seating and plants to be given priority to improve the look of the town for tourists.

Tendring Councils communications manager Nigel Brown said the council is aware of anti-social behaviour in the town centre, and is in regular discussions with the local police as part of the on going effort to clamp down on it.

Working in partnership with the police improved CCTV will be installed as part of the town centre scheme.

The council is also in talks over an alcohol ban, plans are also in place to clean the streets twice a week to remove chewing gum from April.
