Did you know TDYC is the only independent Youth Council in the UK!

TDYC is Tendring’s Young Voice and the team of children and young people running it all want to make a positive contribution to the local community in which they live. One Voice is what we have created and Stacey believes we are the official umbrella organisation for children, young people and youth groups in Tendring.

Harrison feels the best way to improve things locally is to be proactive and to become involved with TDYC and that’s what he has done. Now he works with other young people aged 8 – 16 who all make up the TDYC team.

In princible and in practice the young people aim to provide a voice for the whole of the district and are always looking to welcome new faces on board.
TDYC works in partnership with schools, youth groups and other community-focused groups. It is a non-political and non-profitable community and voluntary organisation that is the registered with the British Youth Council.

The Tendring Youth Mayor

The Tendring Youth Mayor leads the TDYC team and for 2008/09 this is Stacey Cranmer. Here she explains more about her role…

"As Tendring Youth Mayor it is my job to ensure that all children and young people living in the district are being taken seriously, have the opportunity to voice their opinions and have a say on the issues that matter to them.

Because we are the only independent youth council in the country we like to think that our creativity, proactive approach and forward thinking solutions puts us in a position to be Tendring’s Young Voice.

Here at TDYC children and young people are always looking at new ways to improve the lives of young people in Tendring and by being part of TDYC I can really make my voice feel valued and we want you to feel the same….be part of something different, be part of Tendring’s Young Voice!"

Working Teams

Here at TDYC we focus on the abilities of the individual. So that’s why we have created threes new teams so that together the young people can work to achieve their best.

The Children’s Team for 8 – 10 year olds

The Junior Team for 11 – 13 year olds

The Senior Team for 14 – 16 year olds

All teams meet every two weeks and have the support and guidance of the TDYC Board.

A TDYC Meeting

Members gather at the main reception where they have a chance to catch up with one another on the week’s highlights.

At 6pm members make there way to the boardroom or main atrium where the meeting begins. Firstly if you are a new member you will be welcomed by all the friendly faces.

We then start something called matters arising where all members get the chance to share stories of interest or things they are concerned about, like the traffic outside their school or an environmental issue.

All our members talk about a huge range of local issues so it can vary from week to week what is discussed.

During break members get the chance to network with other members and talk about common issues.

After having a drink and snack members get to work on a communications exercise or team building game which sees members share ideas and work out solutions to problems and issues.

The meeting ends with any other news and homework. Members meet parents back at the main reception to share there achievements and outcomes of attending TDYC.
